Angela Overcomes Fear of the Water

So if you've ever been swimming with Angela, you would understand why this is so exciting. She has been so fearful of the water and we have done many sessions of swim lessons, tried bribing, lots of playing in the bathtub, etc., with very little success. I've always had hope because Emily was the same way and got over it and became a little fish when she was about 5. This spring and summer Angela has made very gradual progress getting more comfortable in the water and now she's finally taking off. I think she realized she wanted to be able to swim to be out there with the other kids, so our bribes started working. We told her that when she went all the way under water by herself, not with her teacher, we would buy ber a new toy. So she finally did it this week and picked out a little doggy that moves and wags his tail himself. She is in love with it. We are so proud of you Angela! This is a blurry picture, but that's her head under water in the corner.

I am a parent that is totally okay with bribing! Hey, sometimes that's all that works. I used bribes to get Maddie to boogie board at the beach this year. But she's getting smart about it. She did exactly what we wanted her to do, took the bribe, and would have nothing to do with it after that! What a stinker!
